Union Minister of Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari is now mulling out plans to introduce a new toll system for the citizens of India.Gadkari participated in the Rising Bharat Summit on Tuesday, where he spilled the beans about the new toll system.
Nitin Gadkari did not reveal too much of the details but he stated, “We are bringing a policy, which will bring relief to the common man. We are changing the process of toll… I cannot tell more than this, but I believe it will be announced in the next 8-10 days.”
The plan is to bring down the rates of toll tax and also address the longstanding concerns about the financial burden on commuters. With the new toll tax system, Gadkari also wants to make the entire process smoother. Already, he announced about the new policy in Parliament last month.
India’s toll collection has seen a significant surge in recent years. The revenue witnessed an increase of 35 percent from previous year. The new system will employ Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) to track movement and calculate toll charges based on distance travelled.
