Tax evasion and incorrect entry of financial details are among the main reasons behind the economic shortcomings in the country. However, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu appeared visibly serious about this issue, as he instructed authorities to start using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify cases of tax evasion.
During his interaction with the finance committee officials at the Secretariat yesterday, Babu emphasized that Andhra Pradesh must become a self-sufficient state, and a crucial step toward that goal is by curbing tax evasion.
The Chief Minister stated that sustainable development and welfare schemes can only be effectively implemented through state-owned revenue generation. To make this possible, Babu advised officials to ensure that every vendor, at every level, follows the online billing system so that all financial records are digitally tracked and monitored by the government.
Babu stressed that Andhra Pradesh must work toward achieving an annual revenue target of ₹1,37,412 crore through taxation. He also directed authorities to use data provided by municipalities—especially information related to occupancy certificates—to determine where maximum tax revenue can be sourced. This large volume of data, he noted, can be efficiently processed and analyzed with the help of Artificial Intelligence.
In a positive development, it was reported that Andhra Pradesh has registered a 2.2% growth in annual state-level revenue generation compared to last year. Babu called for even more productive and tech-driven measures to continue this momentum.
