75 Years of CBN: Big Setbacks, Biggest Comebacks!

India has historically produced some of the toughest and most effective Chief Ministers. But few have shown the same level of resilience and perseverance as Nara Chandrababu Naidu. On the occasion of this talismanic politician turning 75, here’s a look back at what has been a remarkable career.

After quickly transitioning from a student union leader at SV University in Tirupati, Chandrababu rose to prominence in Andhra Pradesh politics after joining the Telugu Desam Party from Congress. His tenure from 1995 to 2004 turned him into a formidable Chief Minister and significantly boosted the socio-economic development of the then-united Andhra Pradesh. The now-famous Hyderabad IT boom began during this period.

Though Chandrababu was always a composed statesman who kept revenge out of politics, he faced stiff political competition from the shrewd Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy between 2004 and 2009. However, given their mutual respect and past camaraderie, dealing with YSR wasn’t too difficult for him.

But in 2019, things took a turn for the worse. The Telugu Desam Party hit a crisis point after securing only 23 seats—the lowest tally in its history. On top of that, Chandrababu himself became the target of personal attacks from Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party.

He faced relentless verbal assaults, even within the Assembly. The most shocking moment came in 2023, when Jagan’s government arrested Chandrababu in connection with a fabricated skill development scam—an event widely seen as one of the biggest blows in his political career.

Despite aging and facing immense pressure, Chandrababu held firm to his values. He endured 53 traumatic days in jail, but emerged with the same conviction and determination that have defined his life in politics. Today, he stands tall once again as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh—for a record-breaking fourth time. No other CM in the state has achieved this feat.

Chandrababu’s political journey reads like a gripping political thriller—a man who rose from humble beginnings to become a statesman and one of the greatest chief ministers in Indian political history.

Out of his 75 years, Chandrababu has dedicated over 40 years to public service, leaving behind a legacy that few can match.

While he is celebrating his birthday quietly with family abroad, he gifted the people of Andhra Pradesh today by announcing a mega DSC that will open up over 16,000 government jobs, bringing hope to thousands of unemployed youth.
