Thanks to the intervention of the United States, India and Pakistan had agreed to a ceasefire earlier today amid high tensions at the border. It was officially announced that all military activity — including operations by the Army, Navy, and Air Force — would be halted.
However, just hours after this announcement, the situation seems to be taking a turn for the worse. Reports from the border indicate that Pakistan has already begun violating the ceasefire.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to social media, posting videos showing air defense units in Srinagar responding to drone activity and possible air strikes.
“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar! This is no ceasefire. The air defense units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up,” Omar Abdullah wrote.
There are increasing reports of drone movements and missile activity near the border, suggesting that the ceasefire is breaking down almost immediately after it was agreed upon.
This sudden escalation has once again heightened concerns over the fragile peace between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
