The YCP government, reportedly spent a staggering Rs 272 crore on training volunteers for its volunteer system, a key initiative introduced to provide services to the people of Andhra Pradesh. Initially, the system was hailed as an innovative step to improve public service by creating volunteer positions within village and town secretariats, offering them an honorarium of Rs 5,000 per month.
However, as the program progressed, political opponents, began accusing the YCP government of turning the volunteer system into a tool for political advantage rather than genuine public welfare. They claim that the services provided by the volunteers were not directed towards the people, but rather served the interests of the YCP alone.
The YCP government reportedly allocated Rs 68.62 crore annually for volunteer training, amounting to a total of Rs 272 crore over a period of four years. This money was given to a company called “Ram Info,” which was contracted to provide training for the volunteers. However, there is no evidence that “Ram Info” ever conducted any training on the ground. Instead, it appears that the political consultancy I-PAC, which had been working closely with the YCP, played a significant role in training volunteers.
In light of these revelations, many now believe that the volunteer program was more about strengthening the YCP’s political hold than serving the public. The diversion of funds and the involvement of political operatives in training volunteers have led to suspicions that the program was used for political gain, rather than as a genuine effort to serve the people of Andhra Pradesh.
