After India launched Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, a strong wave of patriotism has swept across the country. Indian citizens are now firmly standing up against nations that extended support to Pakistan, especially in the tourism sector, the impact is becoming quite evident.
Turkey and Azerbaijan, both seen backing Pakistan, are now facing direct consequences from Indian travelers. Many Indians who had planned summer vacations to these countries are now cancelling their trips in protest. What were once joyful holiday bookings have now turned into strong statements of anger.
According to major travel platforms like MakeMyTrip and EaseMyTrip, bookings to Turkey dropped by 60 percent within just one week, while cancellations have surged by 250 percent. MakeMyTrip also officially confirmed that it has suspended promotional offers for both Turkey and Azerbaijan, stating that the company stands in respect of national security. Travel advisories are now in place urging Indian citizens to avoid these countries unless absolutely necessary.
EaseMyTrip founder Nishant echoed similar sentiments on Twitter, stating that national interest outweighs personal benefit. He revealed that tour cancellations have reached 22 percent for Turkey and 30 percent for Azerbaijan. He also assured that the company will always support patriotic citizens who stand for the nation.
In 2024, nearly six lakh Indians visited Turkey and Azerbaijan, generating thousands of crores in foreign revenue for both countries. Analysts warn that if this trend continues, Turkey’s tourism sector could suffer major losses. With India’s firm stand, it’s a clear message to friendly nations, it’s time to choose sides wisely.
