Former Karnataka Minister and current MLC Gali Janardhan Reddy, who is currently lodged in Chanchalguda Jail, has now knocked on the doors of the Telangana High Court seeking bail. He cited serious health concerns and age-related issues, claiming that he’s unable to live life behind bars.
It’s been about a week since the CBI court sentenced Gali, his brother-in-law BV Srinivas Reddy, and others including Rajagopal Reddy and Ali Khan to seven years in prison. The sentence relates to the illegal mining scam involving the Obulapuram mines located between Karnataka and Anantapur, with estimated irregularities amounting to nearly ₹1200 crore.
In a petition filed on Monday, Gali’s legal team argued that he has been suffering from chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes and is not physically fit to be imprisoned. They also reminded the court that he was previously granted bail when the same allegations lacked solid evidence.
His lawyers said, “He has respected all court directions in the past, and there have been no violations from his side. Given his health and age, and his cooperation during the investigation, bail should be considered.”
Other convicts in the case have filed similar petitions citing comparable grounds. On the other hand, CBI lawyers opposed the bail plea, asserting that the charges were proven and that such offenses should not be taken lightly.
Now, all eyes are on the Telangana High Court to see how it rules on the matter.
