The YSR Congress group in Andhra Pradesh is patiently waiting for every single opportunity to point on the NDA government. Latest attempt came in the form of the SSC marks valuation and correction fiasco after several complaints came up on the faulty valuation and scrutiny that happened this year.
The main complaint is that there are record number of recorrection and revaluation requests this year which shows the lack of effective scrutiny. YCP made a meal of the situation and projected that students careers are in danger due to this negligence.
But if we go by the numbers, it can be noted that it is true that the applications for recorrection are record-high this time. But on the contrary, the margin of error is lesser compared to recent years.
In 2022, 41,694 applications were received for recounting/reverification, out of which 8,235 scripts (20 percent) were rectified. In 2023, 61,887 applications were received, out of which 10,987 scripts (18 percent) were rectified, and in 2024, 55,930 applications were received, out of which 9,231 (17 percent).
Cut to 2025, 66,363 applications were received, out of which 11,175 (18 percent) scripts had their marks changed and were corrected. So in terms of sheer numbers, there isn’t too much to be bothered about.
Of these, 55,188 (83.16 %) papers applied by 24,550 students had no changes. 8,863 scripts (13.36 %) showed a difference of only 1 to 5 marks, 1506 scripts (2.27 %) showed a difference of 6 to 10 marks. 343 scripts (0.52 percent) showed a difference of 11 to 15 marks, 163 scripts (0.25 %) showed a difference of 16 to 20 marks, and 300 scripts showed a difference of more than 20 marks.
But nevertheless, the government and the education ministry must make note of the situation and use it to enhance the grading and correction system henceforth.
