Making a big move for sports development,The Telangana Government has put Upasana Kamineni right at the center of its big plan to boost sports across the state. In a bold move, she’s been named co-chair of the brand-new Board of Governors, a powerful team set up to lead the Sports Hub and guide the TS Sports Policy 2025.
Upasana Kamineni will be working as co-chair alongside Chairman Dr. Sanjiv Goenka, a top business leader, and a team of sports legends and experts. The rest of the team is packed with sporting stars and experts, including:
Vita Dani (sports entrepreneur)
Kaviya Maran (sports management)
C Sasidhar (infrastructure expert)
Badminton legend Pullela Gopichand
Cricket hero Kapil Dev
Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra
Football icon Baichung Bhutia
Ravikanth Reddy and Biyyala Papa Rao (sports administrators)
Former Sports Secretary Injeti Srinivas
This is the first time a state has formed such a powerful and diverse board for sports. Their job is clear, make sure sports money is spent right, support young talent and raise Telangana’s standards to international levels.
This is the first time in India, sports management seems to be included in the sports governance of the state where the key sports entrepreneurs and sports persons interact under the shadow of the governance to create a neo-sports eco system that doesn’t just benefit the players but provides a major opportunity to build a market around sports.
The Sports Hub isn’t just a building, it’s meant to become the heart of all sports activity in the state. With the help of these top names, Telangana wants to ensure that every aspiring player no matter where they come from has a real shot at success.
The Sports Minister said, “This Board will change the game for Telangana. We want to make sure the best people are guiding our athletes and our future.”
With this new Board starting work this August, Telangana is all set to sprint ahead on its sporting journey. The message is loud and clear, everyone with talent deserves a chance, and Telangana is ready to make that happen.
