The Stree Shakti free bus travel scheme in APSRTC buses is receiving an overwhelming response from women passengers across Andhra Pradesh. The number of women utilizing the scheme is increasing every day. On Monday alone, more than 18 lakh women traveled in RTC buses with zero-fare tickets, saving over ₹7 crore in a single day.
Within just four days of the scheme’s launch, 47 lakh women have already benefited, resulting in total savings of nearly ₹19 crore. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the implementation of the Stree Shakti scheme with senior RTC officials at the Secretariat. He approved the extension of the scheme even to ghat route services and instructed officials to take necessary measures.
For verification purposes, women can show either a photocopy of their Aadhaar card or the digital copy from their mobile DigiLocker app to avail the free travel benefit. The CM also directed officials to ensure that buses under this scheme carry proper display boards inside and outside, so that women can easily identify the eligible services.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that many women are happily sharing how much they are saving on their daily travel expenses thanks to the scheme.
