The concluded Vice President election created unexpected tense in Indian politics. While the INDIA bloc had projected a united front by fielding Justice B. Sudarshan Reddy, the results told a different story.
The NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan secured 452 votes, whereas the INDIA bloc nominee managed only 300. What shocked many was the fact that the INDIA alliance’s combined strength was 314, which means at least 14 MPs from within the bloc either cross-voted or abstained in a way that benefited the NDA.
This twist not only helped the NDA but also exposed cracks within the opposition alliance.
The outcome has sparked a new political debate: Who are the 14 INDIA MPs that voted in favor of the NDA candidate? While the ballot is secret and no official names are known, the development has dealt a blow to the credibility of the opposition bloc. It also raises serious questions about the leadership and cohesion of the alliance going forward.
