Media Reports: Jagan Wants to Quit as MLA & Contest as MP?

The political strategies of former chief minister YS Jagan are largely unpredictable. Since he does not have too many advisors or a think tank, most of his decisions are unilateral and are expected to be followed by his party members without much discussion.

A similar scenario was observed when Jagan met with his party MLAs and MPs yesterday. He reportedly spoke about the possibility, or even the need, for all 11 YCP MLAs and some MPs to resign if the situation demands.

According to media reports, Jagan discussed the possibility of resigning from his MLA position if the Assembly decides to take disciplinary action against him for not attending the session for over 60 days.

Interestingly, Jagan is said to have pointed out that he is ready to contest as an MP if required. This statement is drawing attention, as it suggests the former chief minister is considering switching roles from MLA to MP.

It should be noted that Jagan began his political career as an MP, so it may not be difficult for him to return to that position. However, the fact that a regional party president who once served as chief minister is now considering contesting as an MP is seen as unconventional.

This is also sparking debates among political experts on whether Jagan has given up on the dream of becoming chief minister again and is instead planning to remain an MP to play a smaller role at the Centre.

Reportedly, Jagan also added that he is not stopping his party MLAs from attending the Assembly and even advised Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy to guide them if needed. However, he himself showed reluctance to attend and instead floated the idea of contesting as an MP.
