A huge tragedy took place in Karur, Tamil Nadu during TVK chief and actor Vijay’s campaign rally. The massive crowd led to a heavy rush and stampede, leaving 31 people dead, including women and children. More than 40 others are in serious condition and being treated in hospitals.
The incident happened when the crowd swelled beyond control and people started collapsing due to suffocation. Vijay was forced to stop his speech midway as many fainted. He appealed to police and volunteers to rush ambulances and also distributed water bottles to help the victims.
Among the chaos, a 9-year-old girl is reported missing. Rescue teams are searching while doctors are attending to the injured in Karur hospitals.
Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin expressed deep shock over the incident. He ordered immediate relief measures and said he will personally visit the victims’ families. District officials, ministers and police are monitoring the situation closely.
This stampede has left the state in deep sorrow and raised questions on crowd management at such political gatherings.
