Hyderabad Buses to get Another Price Hike

From October 6, Bus passengers in Hyderabad will have to pay more, as the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has once again increased fares. The hike applies to ordinary, metro ordinary, metro express and metro deluxe buses.

As per the new structure, fares for the first three stages will go up by ₹5, and from the fourth stage onward, tickets will cost ₹10 more. In metro deluxe services, passengers will pay ₹5 extra for the first stage and ₹10 more from the second stage. TGSRTC says this revision is due to rising costs of fuel, maintenance and operations.

Meanwhile the Government is planning to set up 2800 e-busses and is thinking of complete conversion of the current diesel fleet of buses to the E-bus network system. Officials claim that without a hike, it is impossible to maintain services and won’t be able to fund for the E-buses in future.

This is the third time the hike has come in the last two years with even hikes for the passes too. Many of the passengers feel that the factors behind hiking the tickets is not due to policy change or maintenance issues but due to the Mahalakshmi Scheme that provides free travel to women in the state. As a result to cover up the losses incurred by RTC, officials came up with ticket price increases that are not just limited and the Opposition has been slamming the government on the same line.

Despite earning a profit of ₹110 crores during the recent Dasara holidays, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) has announced another hike in ticket fares. While officials argue that the increase is necessary to cover rising operational costs such as fuel, maintenance, and funds for fleet change, passengers feel the move is unfair, especially after the festival season generated such strong revenues. Daily commuters, students, and workers are expected to be the most affected.
