Fact Check: No TDP MP Was Selected For The UNGA?

A screenshot stating that TDP MPs are not there among the delegation of Indian Parliamentarians attending the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York is viral on various social media platforms. A screenshot of the list with the names of several MPs, stated to be the list of Parliamentarians attending the UNGA, has been shared by several users, with many of them stating that it does not contain the names of TDP MPs.

Some social media users shared misleading posts claiming that no representatives from the TDP or Jana Sena were selected for the United Nations Assembly.

Now, let us know the truth in the social media post.

A delegation of MPs, headed by Lok Sabha MP P.P. Chowdary, is scheduled to attend the 80th UNGA to be held in UN headquarters, New York. In October, two separate teams, consisting of 15 MPs each, will visit the UN headquarters. The first delegation will stay in New York from October 8 to October 14, while the second team will reach New York at the end of this month.

A Fact Check of the above claim revealed that the screenshot and claim were misleading. The screenshot showing the names of the MPs scheduled to attend UNGA is of the second delegation, while the name of TDP MP Sri Bharat Mathukumilli has been included in the first list.

The first list includes names of P.P. Chowdary (BJP), Anil Balu (BJP), Captain Brijesh Chouta (BJP), Nishikant Dubey (BJP), Ujwal Deora Nikam (BJP), Fangnone Kanyak (BJP), Medha Kulkarni (BJP), Punamben Madham (BJP), Rajiv Rai (SP), Kumari Selja (Congress), Vamsikrishna Gaddam (Congress), T. Sumathi (Congress), Sri Bharath Mathukumilli (TDP), NK Premachandran (RSP).

The viral screenshot shows the second list including the names of D. Purandeswari (BJP), Midhun Reddy (YSRC), and other MPs from TMC, DMK, BJD and RJD, and TMLC.

As it is the second list of MPs, there is no name of TDP MP in it. However, Bharat shared on his X handle that he would participate in UNGA. “Enroute to New York! Honored to attend the UN General Assembly with our Indian multi party MP delegation in group 1 in the leadership of PP Chaudhary garu, Hon’ble BJP MP Lok Sabha. Look forward to representing India at the UN over the next week and bringing in the Andhra Pradesh perspective too.”

Hence, the viral post on TDP MPs not attending the UNGA at New York is MISLEADING.
