A major milestone for Andhra Pradesh as Google officially partners with the state government to set up a massive AI data center in Visakhapatnam. The agreement was finalized in a high-level meeting attended by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister Lokesh, and top Google executives including Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian.
With an investment of over ₹87,520 crore, Google plans to establish a one-gigawatt capacity AI data center, marking one of its biggest commitments outside the United States. The facility will serve as a global connectivity hub, linking Visakhapatnam to countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia through an advanced undersea cable network.
The data center is expected to play a crucial role in transforming multiple sectors like healthcare, education, agriculture, and industry by providing AI-driven services and infrastructure. Thomas Kurian emphasized that the Visakhapatnam center would connect India with twelve countries and become a key node in Google’s international network.
This initiative also opens the door for India to produce world-class AI talent, as the center will offer opportunities for innovation, research, and training in emerging technologies like Gemini AI and other Google platforms. Over the next five years, Google’s total investment in the region could reach around 15 billion dollars, strengthening India’s position in the global digital ecosystem.
For Andhra Pradesh, this is not just an investment but a step toward making Visakhapatnam a true technology gateway connecting India to the world.
