Hyundai Opportunity for Anantpur ?

In a major business expansion move for Hyundai Motor in India, has announced that Tarun Garg will become its new Managing Director & CEO, effective January 1, 2026. After B.V.R. Subbu, who transformed the Indian market with the launch of the Santro in the early 2000s, Tarun Garg has become only the second Indian to hold the CEO and MD position at Hyundai Motor India. This move shows the company’s strong focus on making a major impact in the Indian automobile market, especially following the introduction of the New-Gen GST policy this month.

With the leadership change there comes the massive opportunity that the company aims at, Hyundai has revealed a bold investment plan of ₹45,000 crore (about US$5 billion) over the next few years. The goal is simple: it wants to clearly expand its manufacturing capacity, and to put a strong focus on research & development (R&D), which will receive about 60% of the funds. Hyundai expects to build new products, improve existing ones and enhance its technical capabilities in India while aligning on to boost the manufacturing too.

For Anantapur, this is a golden opportunity that is knocking the doors. Hyundai’s investment is not just about building cars, it’s about building strong skilled jobs with its establishment of new research centers, supply chains, innovation hubs are creating a strong foundation for the youth of the state to invest in their ideas for product development and long-term economic growth that backs in developing a strong automobile ecosystem in Anantpur.

Just think of what New Component factories, Technical centres and labs are based in AP. The ripple effects can be clearly seen on increases in local employment, infrastructure development, training institutes and attracting in the creation of other associated industries which could be contracted under the massive umbrella of the company and its evolving eco-system.

Anantpur already has an existing ecosystem in the name of Kia Motors which has been a big success story for the government back then. Interestingly, the same Kia Motors is a sister company of Hyundai. Back then what Kia Motors invested was around 9000 crores and now what Hyundai is planning to invest for its business is 5 times higher than this investment and surely Anantpur will be the strong place to bet on backed by the Aerospace park and Bangalore – Hyderabad – Vijayawada – Chennai Industrial corridor at its bay.

Despite facing some challenges with the previous government of YCP tenure regarding local contracts and subcontract awards, Kia Motors has continued its operations with thrust in the state. Kia has been strongly valuing Chandrababu Naidu’s dedication and share a strong bond of mutual trust and belief which could be a confidence setup for the government to approach Hyundai for the investment.

If the Andhra Pradesh government can act smartly by offering supportive policies, land allocation, streamlined clearances, power & logistics support at Anantpur it could become the preferred destination for a part of this ₹45,000 crore wave. Especially since Hyundai (and its sister companies) already consider South India a key region for growth when they have their one of the other main plants at Chennai.

With an impactful leader like Nara Lokesh who has been welcoming investments and working on attracting more of them while pitching up Swarna Andhra Pradesh vision aggressively on social media and offline channels. The lobbying was quite evident recently when CBN and co. were able to welcome Google to set up in Vizag. Now the ball is in the government’s court and time to step up in converting this opportunity for Anantpur and Andhra Pradesh.

In short: Hyundai is showing confidence in India by appointing an Indian CEO and investing heavily. AP should not just watch , it should welcome and partner. If the leaders like Nara Lokesh can step forward, it may land a share of this investment, boost its industrial base and create generations of opportunity for its people.
