Three weeks after the tragic stampede claims 41 lives, actor turned politician Thalapathy Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has fulfilled its promise to compensate for the loss to the families of deceased. As per reports, TVK party has transferred ₹20 lakhs each to the kith and kin of 39 people who lost their lives in the devastating stampede on September 27th.
The total sum of ₹7.8 Crores was directly deposited into the accounts of families as a financial solatium which was announced soon after the incident by Vijay. Two other families are yet to get compensation due to some procedural delays.
Vijay has also promised to bear the medical expenses of those who were seriously injured in this ghastly incident which was triggered by a massive crowd swell during the political roadshow due to chaotic conditions following Vijay’s late arrival in the evening.
Besides this assistance, Vijay assured to hand over ₹2 lakh each for the injured and also long-term adoption of victim families by offering help in education and employment opportunities. The TVK party is making sure that these promises are also met as assured by its chief.
Vijay penned an heartfelt letter to the bereaved families to express his profound sorrow over the painful incident. He once again gave moral support and assured them all possible assistance in future. He also promised to meet the families once he is granted official permission by the government to visit them. As a mark of respect for the deceased,Vijay urged his party supporters to abandon Diwali celebrations.
Last week, the Supreme Court of India ordered a CBI probe into the stampede. The investigation into the case is yet to begin. Vijay is likely to resume his political activities after this month.
