Sixty two-year-old T. Narayana Rao, accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in Tuni, Kakinada district, has died by suicide, jumping into a lake on the outskirts of the town. The accused and the victim belong to Tuni.
While being shifted to the court from Tuni police station by the escort team on Wednesday night, Rao told the police that he had to attend nature’s call and deboarded the vehicle. Suddenly, he began running and then jumped into the nearby lake and drowned.
Police launched the search operation and Rao’s body has been recovered on Thursday morning. The body has been sent to Tuni government hospital for post-mortem.
On Tuesday, Rao sought permission from the teacher in the Gurukul school citing medical grounds and took her out into a garden. He sexually assaulted the girl in the garden, and was caught by the garden owner.
The incident came to light on Wednesday when the garden owner posted the video online. Peddapuram divisional police arrested the accused.
