Andhra Pradesh Plans Two New Districts

In the recent Cabinet, a new proposal came in for the formation of two new districts under Markapuram and Madanapalle. This proposal, once approved, will bring the total number of districts in the state to 28, further decentralizing governance and making administration more people-friendly.

The New Markapuram District will be formed out of the existing Prakasam district, while Madanapalle District will be formed from portions of the Annamayya and Chittoor districts. The decision aims to ensure better service delivery, faster development keeping in mind the new industrial policies in these districts and easier access to government offices for people.

In addition to these two new districts, the Cabinet Committee has also proposed four new revenue divisions under Pileru or Punganuru, Addanki, Giddaluru, and Madakasira to improve local governance. These divisions will make it easier for officials to oversee development schemes and respond more quickly to the needs of the locals.

Another key part of the proposal is a change in district headquarters for Annammaya district where the current headquarters is Rayachoti and now the government plans to change it to Rajamapeta. This shift is being considered to improve connectivity and administrative efficiency.

These proposals are currently under review and will be sent for final approval soon. Once cleared, the reorganization will take effect in phases, similar to the process followed during the 2022 district restructuring.

If approved, this move will mark another major step by the NDA government toward decentralized administration, fulfilling the promise of taking governance closer to the people.
