YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the leader of YSRCP, is planning another big move. Former minister Perni Nani said that Jagan is preparing for a new padayatra in 2027, two years before the next elections. Party leaders hope this walk could bring YSRCP back to life after the 2024 loss.
It has been eight years since Jagan finished his famous Praja Sankalpa Yatra. It started on November 6, 2017, at YSR Ghat in Idupulapaya and ended in January 2019 at Ichchapuram. The journey covered 3,648 kilometers across 13 districts, 134 assembly constituencies, and more than 2,500 villages. That padayatra helped Jagan win the 2019 elections and made him a strong people’s leader.
Now, with the party facing tough times, YSRCP members believe this new yatra can bring back energy and confidence. They feel Jagan’s direct meetings with people will help the party recover.
After the 2024 defeat, Jagan stayed away from public life and spent most of his time in Bengaluru. The opposition often criticizes him for not visiting the state during important times. Many party members feel left out and unhappy.
Some senior leaders are facing court cases, while others have left the party. The ones who remain believe this padayatra is the only way to rebuild strength.
Recently, Jagan met with youth leaders and said he would soon start public tours. He also hinted that the padayatra will begin before these tours. Party sources say early planning has already started for the 2027 walk.
For Jagan and YSRCP, this padayatra could be more than just a journey. It might be their last chance to connect with the people and bring the party back before the 2029 elections. Whether it will repeat the success of 2019 or not, only time will tell.
