Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh is getting ready to make a mark on the global industrial map. The Aditya Birla Group’s Hindalco Industries is investing ₹586 crore (around $71 million) to set up a new aluminium extrusion plant in the region.
The plant will produce high-grade aluminium chassis for iPhones, meaning these crucial Apple components will now be made in Kuppam. This project officially brings Andhra Pradesh into Apple’s global supply chain. Commercial operations are expected to begin by March 2027, creating over 600 direct jobs and several indirect opportunities in logistics, services, and skill development.
Kuppam was chosen for its strategic location, being close to Bengaluru and Chennai. This helps connect easily with Foxconn, Apple’s key manufacturing partner in Bengaluru. The Andhra Pradesh Electronics Component Manufacturing Policy (2025–2030) and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme also played a big role in attracting the investment.
The state government’s fast approvals, strong industrial support, and renewable energy availability align well with Hindalco’s focus on sustainability. The company follows clean energy and zero-waste practices, making this project a perfect match for both sides.
With this investment, Andhra Pradesh officially becomes part of Apple’s global network. It also sets the stage for more international electronics companies to invest in the state, strengthening its position as a trusted hub for smartphone and electronics production.
Hindalco, a flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is one of India’s leading metal producers and the world’s largest aluminium rolling company through its subsidiary Novelis. Known for its focus on sustainability, Hindalco has been ranked among the world’s most sustainable aluminium companies for five consecutive years.
This major step by Hindalco is not just an investment, it’s a leap that will place Andhra Pradesh firmly on the global technology manufacturing map.
