One of the many reckless decisions taken by the previous Jagan government in Andhra Pradesh is the imposition of insane traffic challans on the common folk. Traffic fines were amplified so very brutally that repeat offenders could result in ₹7000-₹15,000 fines and even suspension of licenses for 3 months.
This traffic imposition is made by the previous government had a lot of undercurrent impact on the public as there was a lot of backlash against the same at the ground level.
And now the NDA government under the leadership of Chandrababu appears to have understood what went horribly wrong in the previous administration. In tune with the same, chief minister Babu made a pretty positive announcement.
In his interaction with traffic department officials last evening, Chandrababu categorically denied the proposal from the officers to enhance the fines further. He clearly instructed the traffic department authorities not to impose any undue pressure on the public.
“It is important that we educate the public before imposing fines and challans. Never terrorise the public by imposing hefty fines. It is our duty to enlighten them first. Fines and collections must be last priority.” Babu said.
It is a fact that public road safety, including helmets, correct side driving, and proper documentation are needed. But that doesn’t warrant hefty fines and challans, which is exactly what CM Babu pointed out rightly.
