One of the main reasons for the emergence of Jagan Mohan Reddy government in 2019 was the historic Padayatra, which was titled Praja Sankalpa Yatra. This is one of the mass outreach programmes that brought Jagan close to the public.
It was all good till Jagan won the support of the public and became the CM in 2019, but his subsequent change in behaviour and reluctance to meet the public showed fatal results in 2024.
And now it appears that Jagan is following a similar formula to possibly stake his claim at the chief minister position in the 2029 election.
According to Venkat Reddy, who is close to the YCP leadership and is a recognised spokesperson of the party, Jagan will be touching nearly 5000 km in the upcoming Padayatra 2.0. He revealed that Jagan is very determined to start this mega walkathon across the length and breadth of Andhra Pradesh.
“Jagan Anna will be covering 5000 km this time as opposed to his earlier record of 3600 km in 2019. He will be spending 15 months on this Padayatra, and once he leaves his house, there is no going back until the Yatra is done and poll campaign is wrapped.” Venkat Reddy said.
If this timeline is anything to go by, then it could be possible that Jagan might start the Padayatra by the early stages of 2028 and carryon till the electoral roll in 2029. This could be one of the most elongated political campaigns in terms of distance and time spent.
But considering that Jagan had already lost the trust of the public, after the 2019 Padayatra and subsequent rise to power, it might take a lot of convincing from him to appease the public this time.
