The chief minister relief fund is established to help the poor and needy section of the public as it comes as a crucial financial resource that connects the CM to the public. When a suitable beneficiary is in need of financial assistance for medical or other emergency purposes, the CM can transfer funds from the CMRF to help the individual.
However, it is sad to note that certain chief ministers are not very proactive when it comes to utilising the CMRF effectively for the common public. But that is not the case with Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, as he appears to be very proactive with the same.
Revanth has set a new benchmark in extending medical assistance to the poor and middle-class families. Over the last two years (till 6 December 2025), the CMRF has disbursed an unprecedented ₹ 1,685.79 crore towards medical support.
Compared to the earlier average annual expenditure of ₹ 450 crore during 2014–2024, the past two years have seen a significant rise, with the fund providing nearly ₹ 850 crore per year in assistance.
Of the total amount disbursed in these two years, ₹ 1,152.10 crore was released towards reimbursement of medical bills, benefiting 3,76,373 patients.
Additionally, 27,421 people received medical treatment through Letters of Credit (LOCs) issued for free treatment, amounting to ₹ 533.69 crore.
While the year on year average during the KCR government in Telangana was around ₹450 crore, Revanth Reddy nearly doubled this margin by dispersing ₹850 crore. This is a significant increase in the expenditure from the CMRF that directly helps the common public.
