Legendary Telugu singer SP Balasubrahmanyam is one of the proud exponents of South Indian cinema or perhaps even Indian cinema. His tragic passing away during the Covid era was mourned by the entire film fraternity and audience alike.
Coming to the topic now, something significant with regard to the celebration of Balasubrahmanyam’s Legacy happened in Hyderabad today as his statue was erected at the famous Ravindra Bharti venue.
The detrimental thing about this event is that there has been untoward hate and criticism on the assembling of the SPB statue at Ravindra Bharathi.
Certain Telangana activists, including Kalvakuntla Kavitha have been commenting that SPB had allegedly refused to sing the Telangana anthem, and he doesn’t deserve to have a statue at the Heart of Hyderabad.
Well, there is no credible establishment on whether SPB actually rejected anything as such, it is sad to see such a detrimental development surrounding a proud son of the Telugu land after his passing away. His incredible contribution towards art needs to be celebrated, but this sad reality is that regional conflicts overpowered this spirit now.
Even today, even after the establishment of the SPB statue at Ravindra Bharathi, which was attended by Venkayya Naidu, Dattathreya, and others, a Telangana activists named Sangamreddy Pruthvi Raj said he would see to it that the statue is dismantled. He said he would see how many days the police would guard the statue which can’t go on forever.
While the Telangana government is committed to celebrating the legacy of the legendary singer, there are certain detrimental factors happening surrounding the same.
