TDP MP Kalisetti Appalanaidu set an example with a different act. Wearing a yellow kurta with golden jacket and a yellow cycle helmet, Appalanaidu rode a cycle displaying the TDP board in the front on to the premises of the Parliament. Instead of travelling in his vehicle to the Parliament, he reached riding a cycle highlighting his concern over the deteriorating air quality in the national capital.
Speaking to the media, he urged other MPs also to practice the same to reduce the pollution in the chilling winter, when pollution would spike due to the fog. “Every day, they are discussing about increasing pollution in the Parliament. I felt I should do something to motivate others and so came to the Parliament on a bicycle. I feel I am a responsible citizen,” he said.
By reducing the use of motor vehicles, pollution can be reduced and all those who can contribute to reducing pollution in that manner can choose a less-polluting mode of transport to commute in the city, he felt.
On Monday morning, a dense blanket of fog enveloped Delhi-NCR, affecting the visibility on roads. People also feared breathing as the toxic air quality dwindled to ‘severe-plus’ category. Apart from movement on roads, air traffic was also affected due to the poor visibility. The travel advisory warned passengers of likelihood of delays and urged them to plan keeping the fact in consideration.
