Over the last couple of weeks, cinema censor board operations have been the most discussed topic in Tamil Nadu. This is due to the fact that Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan got postponed last minute due to the delay in censor certification.
This is followed by another detrimental development as Parashakthi film, which has Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role and is releasing on January 10 also faced censor problems.
The fact that this Sivakarthikeyan film, which is reportedly based on the anti-Hindi movement in Tamil Nadu has faced a significant challenge from the censor department as 25 cuts were enforced during the censor certification.
This ongoing issue with the Tamil cinema censor department has warranted a reaction from the state chief minister Stalin himself.
A few hours back, Tamil Nadu chief minister, Stalin tweeted “Alongside the CBI, ED, and IT, the Censor Board too has become a new weapon of the Union BJP government. This has drawn strong condemnations.”
This tweet from the Chief Minister has now sparked a debate, with many Tamil moviegoers alleging that the censor department, which is supposed to function as an independent body, is being influenced by political entities.
But nevertheless, Vijay’s fans are arguing that Stalin has also very partial while reacting to this matter as he remained silent while Jana Nayagan faced censor issues but reacted immediately after Parashakthi faced a similar issue.
