Jagan hikes Liquor prices by 25%, Reason here!

Giving a big blow to the boozers who have been waiting for the reopening of liquor stores with bated breath, Andhra Pradesh state government has decided to increase the liquor prices by 25 percent.

AP state government has come up with an interesting logic behind increasing the prices of liquor. As the liquor outlets are set to open today, the government has announced an increase of price by flat 25 percent and reasoned that the movie is necessitated to “discourage people” from consuming alcohol and also to avoid “rush” and “crowd” outside the stores. The government’s decision to hike liqour prices came in after CM YS Jagan convened a Covid-19 review meeting and the same was announced.

This is not all. In what can be a further blow, AP state government has announced its plan to further decrease the number of liquor stores. After CM Jagan came to power, the number of liquor outelts have been reduced from 4380 to 3500 and the government has taken the complete control of the 3500 stores and they’re being run by the government.

However, this is the second time, Jagan administration has increased the liquor prices. Exactly six months ago, the prices of liquor was increased on 1st October, 2019 where they were increased in the range of Rs 10 to Rs 250.

Ever since Jagan came to power, he is firm on controlling the liqour consumption. He is now said to be aiming towards prohibition of liquor in the state. “Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy asserted that the state government is taking effective measures towards the prohibition of liquor across the State and thus increased the price by 25 per cent. In the coming days, the number of shops will be further reduced. Following the guidelines by the Centre, physical distance should be maintained at liquor outlets,” a statement from the CMO said.
