In a shocking tragedy, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and NCP leader Ajit Pawar died just a while ago after his aircraft crashed in Baramati. He is aged 66 and survived by his wife and two children.
Ajit Pawar and five others embarked the special aircraft today morning to attend political rallies ahead of the local body polls in Maharashtra.
At around 08:45 AM, the plane crashed near Baramati due to technical fault after it veered off the runway. Locals rushed to the spot and immediately retrieved the injured persons and took them to nearby hospital.
Unfortunately, all were declared dead including the dignitary. The news came as a huge shock to the political spectrum and people across the country because Ajit Pawar is a seasoned political leader who played a prominent role in Maharashtra politics in the last three decades.
Following the footsteps of his uncle Sharad Pawar in Indian National Congress, Ajit made his political debut in 1982 when he was elected to the board of a cooperative sugar factory. In 1991, he was elected as the chairman of the Pune District Central Cooperative Bank and remained in the post for the next 16 years.
He was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1991 from the Baramati Parliamentary constituency. He later won as MLA seven times and served as a state cabinet minister several times and held numerous portfolios in his journey. He served as the leader of Opposition in Maharashtra legislative assembly from 2022 to 2023.
