Kakinada Gets Long-Awaited Cricket Stadium Approval

Good news for cricket lovers in Kakinada. The Andhra Pradesh government has officially approved the construction of a full-fledged cricket stadium in the city, ending years of anticipation among sports enthusiasts and residents.

According to a Government Order issued on January 27, 2026, the Revenue (Endowments) Department has permitted the lease of endowment land for building the stadium. The land, measuring 16.55 acres, is located in Sarpavaram village of Kakinada Rural and belongs to Sri Bhavanarayana Swamy Devasthanam.

The land will be leased to the Kakinada District Collector and District Magistrate for a period of 33 years specifically for the construction of a cricket stadium. The lease amount has been fixed at ₹50,000 per acre per year, with a 33 percent increase once every three years, as per government norms. An extent of 4,900 square feet along the CC road has been excluded from the lease.

After the success of Anantpur cricket stadium that has been hosting a lot of Ranji and domestic level cricket tournaments has shown the greater capability of Andhra Cricket Association in organizing such tournaments so far and now this decision comes after detailed proposals submitted by the District Collector, Kakinada, and recommendations from the Commissioner of Endowments. After careful examination, the government gave its final nod, clearing a major hurdle for the project.

The upcoming stadium is expected to not only promote sports culture but also bring wider benefits to the region. It is likely to create local employment, encourage youth participation in sports, and give Kakinada a stronger presence on the state’s sporting map.

Officials have been directed to ensure timely payment of lease amounts and follow all required procedures so that the project moves ahead without delay.

For Kakinada, this is more than just a stadium approval as it is a step towards giving the city the sporting recognition it has long deserved.
