TDP is one of the most fundamentally strong and adequately populist political parties in India. This strength largely comes from its deep rooted supporter base and committed ground level cadres.
However, due to changing political scenarios and the sustained political pressure mounted by YCP between 2019 and 2024, the activity levels of TDP cadres fluctuated. The trademark aggression and visible street level presence of the party were not consistently seen during that phase.
That situation changed dramatically over the last two days.
The entire TDP supporter base and ground cadres were visibly fired up following the controversial remarks made by YCP leaders. Ambati Ram Babu’s outrageous comments on Chandrababu and his abusive remarks against TDP supporters triggered immediate anger among party workers. The reaction was swift and intense.
In Guntur, large groups of TDP supporters gathered and protested strongly against Ambati. The yellow brigade reached his residence in big numbers, mounting pressure and demanding action. They issued a clear ultimatum to the government leadership to arrest Rambabu within 24 hours, warning of serious consequences otherwise.
Before the dust could settle, another flashpoint emerged. YCP Sr leader Jogi Ramesh made highly objectionable remarks against Nara Lokesh. That further intensified the anger among TDP cadres. Within hours, hundreds of party workers reportedly gathered at Jogi Ramesh’s residence in Ibrahimpatnam in NTR district. The protest escalated, with damage reported to property and the house being set on fire.
The back to back targeting of two former YSRCP senior leaders within a span of 48 hours clearly indicates the emotional surge within TDP’s ground level structure. The party ecosystem has not displayed this level of aggression or spontaneous mobilization in the recent past. Even during Chandrababu’s arrest and the controversy involving comments against Bhuvaneshwari in the Assembly, such intense street level reaction was not widely witnessed.
