Godavari Pushkaralu Works Worth ₹700 Crore in Full Swing

Ahead of the upcoming Godavari Pushkaralu, NDA government has prepared a large action plan to improve safety, roads, and public spaces along the Godavari river in East Godavari, West Godavari and Konaseema districts. The main aim is to protect riverbank areas from floods and make movement easier for pilgrims and local people.

In East Godavari district, officials have proposed major works along the Godavari river stretch from Dowleswaram to Purushottapatnam. The riverbank walls that protect nearby towns and villages will be strengthened and widened to prevent damage during heavy floods. On top of this, the road running along the river will be upgraded into a strong, wide BT road. This will help in smooth traffic flow during Pushkaralu and will also be useful for daily travel even after the festival is over.

Several public and heritage places around Dowleswaram will also see improvements. The well-known Dowleswaram Cotton Museum will be modernised, while repair works are planned for the historic Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage. Parks in the area will be developed to give families better places to relax and important local landmarks like the Bobbarlanka arch will be rebuilt.

Works have also been planned to improve river control systems near Maddur and Vijjeswaram, along with better security and cleaning works at the barrage. New equipment will be added to manage river activities safely during peak devotees days.

In Konaseema district, similar works have been proposed to strengthen river-side protections and prevent flooding in low-lying villages that often face problems during the monsoon season.

Officials say these works are not only for Pushkaralu, but are meant to give long-term safety, better roads, and improved public spaces for people living along the Godavari.
