The first day of the Assembly Budget Session witnessed high drama as YSRCP 11 MLAs raised slogans during the Governor’s speech and later walked out of the House just in few mins. While political protests are not new to the Assembly, what made this episode stand out was the presence of school children in the visitors’ gallery.
Several students had come to the Assembly to observe the proceedings and understand how democracy functions. Instead of witnessing a healthy debate or meaningful discussion on public issues, they saw chaos, slogan shouting, and an eventual walkout by the YSRCP members. According to ruling party leaders, the scene left many students confused and embarrassed.
Janasena MLA Vijay Kumar criticized the beahviour of the YSRCP legislators. He questioned why the MLAs attended the session if they were not prepared to participate in discussions. He asked whether they had come merely to mark attendance or to genuinely raise public issues.
The MLA also remarked that when students visit the Assembly, lawmakers carry an added responsibility to set an example. The behavior displayed during the Governor’s address, he said, did not reflect the dignity expected from elected representatives.
For the students who came to witness democracy in action, the day turned into an unexpected lesson on the realities of politics.
