JD’s New Job Sparks Debate in Telugu States

Megha Engineering Group company EV Trans Private Limited has appointed former IPS officer ‘JD’ Lakshminarayana as the Vice President of Operations.

EV Trans is a subsidiary of Olectra Greentech, a registered electric vehicle company of the Megha Group. EV Trans builds the charging systems required for the electric buses supplied by Olectra to various states under Gross Cost Contract (GCC) and also looks after all the maintenance responsibilities of the said buses. Currently, the company operates more than 900 buses.

Lakshminarayana, a 1990-batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer, created a sensation by performing his duties with great commitment.

Some of the sensational cases he handled were the Obulapuram Mining Company case which led to the arrest of Mining Baron Gali Janardhan Reddy and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Disproportionate Assets case. He was instrumental in sending Jagan behind the bars for more than sixteen months.

He took voluntary retirement from service and tried his luck in Politics. He initially joined Janasena and floated his own party but without any luck. It appears like he moved away and is pursuing another career in Corporate. But then, the company he selected is rising eyebrows.

Megha Engineering is one of the most controversial companies as far as the Telugu States are concerned.

MEIL has faced political controversy primarily due to its massive donations via electoral bonds, totaling over ₹966 crore, with the largest share (₹584 crore) going to the BJP, alongside contributions to parties like BRS and DMK.

It is alleged that it is a “quid pro quo” arrangement, where these donations coincided with MEIL securing multi-billion-dollar government contracts, such as irrigation projects in Telangana and hydropower in J&K, amid claims of favoritism and influence peddling.

Additionally, in March, 2024, the CBI booked MEIL and officials for corruption in a ₹315 crore steel plant project of NMDC, involving alleged bribes of ₹78 lakh to clear bills, further fueling scrutiny over its ties to political entities.

VV Lakshminarayana who became famous for unearthing corporate frauds is now going to work for such highly controversial company. But then, for MEIL, there is no better choice than VV who is aware of the system in and out.
