MLC Anantha Babu ‘Dead Body Door Delivery’: Classic Example Of Police-Politics Nexus

Its been about two years since Chandrababu Naidu Government came to power and finally there is some movement in MLC Anantha Babu case.

The Murder case happened during Jagan’s regime and allegations that police collided with him and ensured Default Bail by delaying filing of the Chargesheet.

There is not much movement even in the new Government. But all of sudden, there is an interesting development.

The case has once again become a topic of discussion in political circles after the Special Investigation Team investigating the case also filed a chargesheet against Ananthababu’s wife Lakshmi Durga.

Media reports are that both his MLC and his wife are absconding fearing arrest indicating that there maybe a possible conclusion to this case very soon.

For those who are not aware, In May 2022, YSR Congress MLC Anantha Babu picked up his previous driver, Subrahmanyam from his residence in Kakinada at night under the pretext of discussing work.

In the early hours of early hours of next day, Anantha Babu transported Subrahmanyam’s dead body in his own car and delivered it to the victim’s family home, claiming it was a road accident. This “door delivery” of the body sparked immediate outrage and suspicion.

Anantha Babu reportedly confessed to police that a minor altercation led to him hitting/pushing Subrahmanyam, causing a fatal head injury (from falling on an iron grill). He was arrested on May 23, 2022, and remanded for 14 days. Charges included Section 302 (murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence), and relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as the victim was Dalit.

YSR Congress suspended him from the party but that is just an eyewash to hoodwink Dalits.

Anantha Babu continue to work for the party and has been attending the meetings of Jagan Mohan Reddy as well.

In July 2025, a SIT was formed to look into the case.

Earlier today, the Supreme Court made strong observations criticizing the earlier investigation, noting a “police-politician nexus” and efforts to favor the accused (e.g., delayed chargesheet for default bail).

The Court Apex ordered the Andhra Pradesh High Court to monitor the probe, directed a time-bound trial, and warned that any witness tampering would lead to bail cancellation.

Along with him, his wife was also included as one of the Accused because she played a significant role in the post-crime events, particularly in destroying and concealing evidence after the murder.

Evidence from forensic analysis, CCTV footage, and digital records reportedly established her involvement in efforts to cover up the crime, such as aiding in the disposal or tampering of evidence related to the incident.

With Supreme Court’s involvement, we may very soon see a logical conclusion to this case and judgement to the Dalit family.
