Jagan Did Not Spare Sharmila, Why Will He Leave Somu Veerraju?

Politics has no permanent friends or enemies. If someone as close as his own sister Sharmila could not remain in his good books, why would Somu Veerraju expect any special treatment? That is the question now being raised in political circles after the latest developments in the Council.

BJP leader Somu Veerraju and his group allegedly played the Opposition to the TDP between 2014 and 2019 despite being part of the then Chandrababu Naidu government. Later, between 2019 and 2024, they allegedly played to the tunes of Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Many core TDP cadre believe that leaders like Somu Veerraju, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, and GVL Narasimha Rao opposed the TDP tooth and nail. They allegedly tried to stall the alliance in 2014 and again in 2024. They were also said to be one of the reasons for the alliance falling apart in 2018.

All of them were largely silent during Jagan’s rule, allegedly making their intentions clear. However, Somu Veerraju secured an MLC berth once again in 2025, reportedly using his influence in the BJP.

That said, he is not as aggressive as he was between 2014 and 2018. We barely hear him these days, especially since the Narendra Modi government in Delhi is dependent on the numbers of the TDP.

However, today there was a tense atmosphere in the Legislative Council for a while. YSRCP members Israel, Vikrant, and Ramesh Yadav allegedly rushed towards BJP MLC Somu Veerraju.

After Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu finished his reply on the Rayalaseema lift irrigation scheme, YSRCP members insisted on a discussion. Once the minister concluded, the Council Chairman moved to the next question. At that point, MLC Somu Veerraju tried to speak.

YSR Congress MLC Israel and some members of the party allegedly rushed towards him and attempted to confront him, questioning why he took the mic while they were protesting. Ministers Anitha and Gottipati Ravikumar stepped in to support Somu Veerraju and blocked the situation from escalating.

Amid the tense atmosphere, Council Chairman Moshen Raju adjourned the House for a while.

It is widely discussed that Somu Veerraju’s role in the breakdown of the TDP and BJP alliance allegedly helped YSR Congress come to power in 2019. Breaking that alliance was considered a game changer at the time. Some now claim that despite his alleged role back then, he is facing hostility today.

“It is the true nature of YSR Congress. They do not even care about those who helped them previously. They just use and throw anybody and everybody. They did not even spare Sharmila, so why would they spare Somu Veerraju?” a few people commented on social media.
