AP Govt’s Big Support for a Noble Deed

Recently, a ten-year old baby in Kerala became the state’s youngest Organ Donor after her parents came forward to donate the kid’s organs to give a new lease of life to four infants with birth complications. The baby was hailed as an unsung hero by people all over the country.

This touching move by the parents received nationwide tributes and also underscored the need for displaying compassion towards others during times of grief. The Kerala government held the last rites of the baby with state honours as a befitting tribute.

While such noble deeds should come out voluntarily, the policymakers also have a strong role to play in encouraging people to adopt them by providing all possible support. Now, Andhra Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu seems to be moving in that direction.

The government of Andhra Pradesh is currently providing 10,000 assistance to organ donors under the Jeevandan scheme launched by the current regime to give a filip to organ transplantation and also conducting the funeral ceremonies with all official formalities as a mark of respect to the donors.

In January this year, Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Medical Education Y Satya Kumar Yadav has appealed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to enhanced the financial assistance to Rs 1 lakh from the existing 10000 to each to families of organ donors.

Now, the government is planning to increase the incentive to 1 lakh very soon and also to perform the last rites with state honours in the presence of the kith and kin of those who donated organs after death.

This is a highly appreciable move because the awareness among the public is slowly gaining momentum as suggested by the official numbers pertaining to organ donation in the last couple of years.

Organ donation has seen a sudden spike in recent years. In 2025 alone, 93 deceased persons donated 301 organs. Between 2020 and 2025, 244 individuals donated organs and of them 69 were under the age of 30. This included one child under 10, 21 donors under 20, and 47 under 30. Of the total donors, 69 were women.

So, the government’s move to enhance the assistance by ten fold will be a good sign and also encourages the public to turn saviours for others.
