YCP Hoping BJP To Dethrone Babu: An Impossible Dream?

Bihar politics underwent a significant transition as chief minister Nitish Kumar has filed Raja Sabha nomination today, and once this gets processed, he will be losing his chief minister position. This is one of the first time in Indian politics that a sitting chief minister is stepping down for a Rajya Sabha position.

On this matter, YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh is apparently hoping that something similar would happen here in the Telugu state as well. Certain social media handles associated with the party have been tweeting that BJP might be repeating a similar CM coup in Andhra Pradesh as well in the near future.

While it is understandable that YCP is desperately hoping for such a destabilising situation in Andhra Pradesh, considering the pathetic situation of the Jagan party after losing power, this dream might be virtually unimaginable, say experts.

In Bihar, the situation is completely different as BJP(89 seats) is even stronger than Nitish Kumar’s JDU(85). Being the bigger party in the lions, it is natural for the BJP too, considering the CM seat, and that is what is happening now. There is nothing much Nitish Kumar can do out of this horizon.

But the situation is completely polarised in Andhra Pradesh as TDP has overwhelming power with 134 seats on its own. TDP is not just the single largest party in the alliance and also Andhra Pradesh’s assembly, but it also has the biggest fundamental cadreship and structural strength. There is no party that can battle with TDP at the foundation level, let alone a political conspiracy.

Adding to that, the BJP leadership in the state and also at the centre has been very good terms with TDP. Prime Minister Modi himself had been speaking highly of Chandrababu and even meeting frequently with Lokesh.

This is in sharp contrast to the situation and Bihar, where Nitish Kumar is a problematic and volatile leader, where as Chandrababu is solid and politically unshakable.

BJP and JDU might have their reasons for the shifting chief minister position in Bihar, but there is no such discussion in Andhra Pradesh, not now, not in the future, asserted a seasoned analyst.
