Andhra Pradesh chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu sounded very concerned about the population index of India and called for more proactive measures on the same.
On that note, Chandrababu proposed the idea of providing a financial assistance of ₹25,000 to a couple after the birth of their third child. Every subsequent child will warrant the couple another ₹25,000 and so on.
However, it appears that the Congress party is not happy with this announcement made by the Andhra Pradesh chief minister and the same is to be understood from the statement issued by Manickam Tagore in the Parliament today.
Tagore pointed out that India needs quality over quantity and said it is funny to see states running after enhancing the population while India is already the most populous country in the world.
“India is already the most populated country, and it will be that way for many decades, so there is no point in running after increasing population. At a time when AI is dictating terms, it is crucial that we start preparing the population for further technologies rather than increasing the population size by incentivising child births.” He said.
While Babu is pushing for enhanced numbers, saying Andhra Pradesh needs to maintain at least 5 crore population to remain substantial, Congress clearly has other priorities.
