Why Delimitation Could Hurt Jagan Big Time?

It is now official that the Central Government had decided to increase the number of Assembly and Parliament Seats in the country ahead of the 2029 elections.

The Lok Sabha seats in the country will be increased from 543 to 816 and the number of Assembly Seats will go up to 6,185 from the existing 4,123 seats.

In AP, the current 175 Assembly seats to 263 and 25 Lok Sabha Seats to 38. Telangana Assembly seats will go up to 179 from 119 seats and Parliament Seats from 17 to 26.

The Process of Increasing the Seats and redrawing their boundaries is called Delimitation. The last Delimitation happened in 2008.

Senior Congress Leader Gade Venkat Reddy was the Chairman of the Delimitation Committee. At that time, many seats that were Strongholds of the TDP were fragmented. All Congress Stronghold Mandals were stitched together to form Certain Constituencies.

That way, YSR with the help of Gade Venkat Reddy weakened TDP and strengthened Congress. Later, Congress Strongholds emerged as YSR Congress Strongholds.

Now after these many years, Chandrababu Naidu got that opportunity. The Delimitation will be completely under Chandrababu Naidu‘s Control. Also, there is a favorable Government in the Center to break the previous Congress Strongholds.

Also, Janasena and BJP will grow ambitious by 2029. They will obviously demand more seats. YSR Congress will be hoping they fight among each other and defeat the spirit of the alliance. They will be happy even if Janasena and BJP get more seats and lose them.

But then, with the increase of the seats, TDP will have that extra space to give more seats to the allies without hurting the chances of winning.

So the announcement of Delimitation is a big blow to Jagan. This is easily the worst news to Jagan after losing the 2024 election.
