Even After 1 Year, Trump Claims Credit for Ind-Pak Ceasefire

US President Donald Trump, who hogs the headlines almost every day unlike any other Head of the State in the world, continues to make tall claims over his ‘Peacemaker’ role in what he believes stopped several wars in the last year after he assumed power for the second term as president.

Whenever he appeared before the media in the last few months, Trump has repeatedly pitched himself as the one who settled several wars between nations. At one point he even demanded a Noble Peace Prize for his efforts to brokering peace talks between different countries who were engaged in serious conflicts. He also claimed to have halted a war between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor last year.

Even after a year since both India and Pakistan were involved in a serious stand-off in the aftermath of Pahalgam attack, which saw military escalations, Trump has once again made boasting statements that he was the one who averted a potential confrontation between the warring nations.

On Friday, Trump said he is a ‘Peacemaker’ who has the reputation for stopping 8 wars in the last year including the India – Pakistan conflict which otherwise could have killed 30-50 million people from both nations. He made these comments during a media interaction at a event in Arizona.

He further expanded on his claim, saying, “I ended eight wars, but if we add Iran and Lebanon, that will be 10 wars ended and many, many millions of lives saved. Think of how many lives we’ve saved.”

Though neither India nor Pakistan endorsed such a mediation by any third party, Trump has previously stated that his administration played a role in easing tensions between them during earlier crises.

On numerous occasions in the last few months, Trump reiterated that he helped to stop potential flare-ups including those between Armenia and Azerbaijan; the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda; Cambodia and Thailand; Egypt and Ethiopia; Serbia and Kosovo; Israel and Hamas.

Speaking about the ongoing truce talks with Iran, Trump said negotiations were continuing and expressed optimism over the deal. Meanwhile, a fresh round of US-Iran talks is expected to take place in Islamabad on Monday.
