After parting ways with her brother YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, YS Sharmila has been making every possible effort to politically counter him. Though her YSR Telangana Party failed to make an impact, her role as AP Congress chief has brought her considerable attention. While she has not been able to convert that attention into votes, she has successfully used her position to strongly target Jagan and the YSRCP.
Now, the Congress party appears to be making strategic moves to revive its presence in Andhra Pradesh. Political circles are buzzing with speculation after AP Congress chief YS Sharmila landed in Delhi along with her husband amid crucial developments in Karnataka Congress politics.
While intense discussions are underway in the national capital regarding the leadership change in Karnataka, Sharmila’s sudden Delhi visit has triggered fresh political curiosity. She met senior Congress leaders including Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
With Congress having no representation from Andhra Pradesh in either the Assembly or Parliament, discussions are now centered around the possibility of Sharmila being sent to the Rajya Sabha from the Karnataka quota. Though there is no official confirmation yet, the timing of her visit has strengthened these political assumptions.
DK Shivakumar’s close relationship with the YS family is also adding weight to the speculation. DK is believed to have played a key role in bringing Sharmila back into the Congress fold. Now, with him set to become Karnataka’s next Chief Minister, political observers believe he may support efforts to secure a Rajya Sabha berth for Sharmila.
If that happens, Congress could gain fresh momentum in Andhra Pradesh. Party leaders reportedly believe giving a national role to Sharmila may help attract several former Congress leaders currently in YSRCP back into the party.
Analysts say such a move could further weaken YSRCP, which is already facing political setbacks after its massive electoral defeat in Andhra Pradesh.
