AP Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has come up with an interesting request to the Centre. Concerned over the declining tiger population in Andhra Pradesh, he urged the Union Government to send six tigresses to the state.
Nallamala forests have long been known as a major tiger habitat. However, the tiger population has been showing signs of decline in recent years due to various environmental and human factors.
During his Delhi visit, Pawan Kalyan met Union Environment and Forest Minister Bhupender Yadav and discussed wildlife conservation in the state. His key focus was on increasing the tiger population in Nallamala.
Pawan requested four tigresses from Maharashtra and two from Madhya Pradesh. He believes this move can help revive tiger breeding and strengthen the long term tiger population in Andhra.
The Deputy Chief Minister said Andhra Pradesh can emerge as a strong tiger conservation zone if the breeding program succeeds. He also expressed confidence that the state could contribute tigers to other regions in the future.
After bringing Kumki elephants for wildlife management, Pawan is now turning his attention to tiger conservation. His latest proposal reflects a bigger push to restore the glory of Nallamala as one of India’s prominent tiger habitats.
