The possibility of Andhra Pradesh securing two more berths in the Union Cabinet is becoming a hot topic in political circles. With a Cabinet reshuffle reportedly on the cards, discussions are gaining momentum over giving greater representation to key NDA allies from the South.
At present, Andhra Pradesh has two representatives Rammohan Naidu and Pemmasani in the Union Cabinet. However, political observers believe the BJP leadership may consider expanding the state’s share, particularly because of the crucial support extended by the TDP and Jana Sena in helping the NDA form the government at the Centre.
As the BJP looks ahead to the 2029 elections, strengthening its alliance network in southern states has become increasingly important. With the party facing challenges in several northern regions, allies such as TDP and Jana Sena are expected to play a significant role in the NDA’s future strategy.
Reports suggest that if Cabinet expansion takes place, one additional ministerial post could go to the TDP and another to the Jana Sena. These positions are likely to be Minister of State roles, though independent charge portfolios cannot be completely ruled out.
The move would not only reward coalition partners for their continued support but also send a strong political message that the NDA is keen on giving greater importance to southern allies. While there is no official confirmation yet, the speculation has already generated considerable interest in Andhra Pradesh’s political landscape.
