Seema Talk: Has Jagan Lost His Grip on Kadapa?

Kadapa has always been considered the political stronghold of YSRCP. But recent developments have started raising doubts over whether the party still enjoys the same control in the district. The lack of coordination among local leaders and the growing silence within the party have become a topic of discussion.

Jagan recently spent three days in Kadapa and participated in several development programmes taken up with MPLADS funds of MP YS Avinash Reddy. Despite the importance of the visit many senior YSRCP leaders were missing from the events. Only a handful of leaders attended while several others stayed away. Their absence has led to fresh speculation about differences within the district unit.

Party leaders believe this is a warning sign. They say the YSRCP should now be focusing on rebuilding the organisation after its defeat in the Assembly elections. Instead internal dissatisfaction appears to be increasing. Many leaders are unhappy with the way the party is being run and feel there is very little communication from the top leadership.

Several senior leaders are also believed to be unhappy with changes made in the party over the last few years. Giving opportunities to new faces while sidelining experienced leaders has reportedly created resentment. Some feel their opinions are no longer valued and that important decisions are being taken without consulting local leadership.

The situation is not limited to Kadapa alone. Similar concerns are being heard from other districts that were once considered YSRCP strongholds including Nellore, Kurnool, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram. Party workers say the YCP top leaders has weakened at the grassroots and that stronger leadership is needed to revive the cadre.

Kadapa itself has witnessed significant political changes in recent months. The BJP has been expanding its presence in Jammalamadugu. The TDP has gained strength in Kadapa Assembly segments and is also trying to increase its influence in Pulivendula which has long been seen as Jagan’s political fortress.

With political activity increasing across Kadapa the coming months will be crucial for the YSRCP. The biggest challenge before Jagan will be reuniting the party leadership energising the cadre and ensuring that the district continues to remain a strong base for the party.
