It has barely been a couple of months since Tamil Nadu delivered one of the most extraordinary verdicts in the assembly election with CM Vijay being miraculously voted to power. He came up against the conventional big parties of DMK and the AIDMK to become the CM of Tamil Nadu.
Now, Tamil Nadu politics has taken another dramatic turn with fresh claims in the alleged horse trading case. The accused have now claimed that nearly Rs 180 crore had been earmarked to lure legislators, adding a new dimension to the controversy.
The case first surfaced after a ruling party MLA alleged he was offered Rs 35 crore to influence his vote during a key Assembly development. Following the complaint, police arrested three accused and expanded the investigation.
During questioning, the accused reportedly claimed the operation was much bigger than initially believed. They allegedly told investigators that around Rs 180 crore had been arranged for the entire exercise.
The allegations have triggered a massive political slugfest. Both the ruling party TVK and the opposition continue to accuse each other of attempting to destabilise the government through horse trading.
The investigation is still underway, and officials are examining the financial trail as well as the alleged involvement of several individuals. More arrests cannot be ruled out if fresh evidence emerges.
With sensational figures like Rs 180 crore now entering the investigation, the case has become one of the biggest political controversies in Tamil Nadu in recent months. The coming days could reveal whether the explosive claims are backed by concrete evidence.
