Kavitha Says ‘Unfair To Change Party Name’, What Will EC Do?

Kavitha’s Telangana Rakshana Sena TRS has requested the Election Commission of India to grant it official recognition.

Anil Kumar, the party’s General Secretary, wrote to the Commission regarding this matter. He requested that the thousand objections raised against the party’s registration be shared with them, questioning how they could provide a response without having copies of these objections.

He argued that it would be unfair to ask for a name change now, given that the party had already hoisted its flags in 105 constituencies under the name initially allotted by the Election Commission.

Pointing out that the Commission had previously recognized multiple parties with similar names, he questioned why objections were being raised specifically against the Rakshana Sena.

He urged the Commission to allow sufficient time for them to review and respond to the objections before scheduling a personal hearing. Finally, he requested that their application be examined and approved in accordance with Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.

TRS had transformed into BRS and lost it connect with Telangana Sentiment. Obviously, Kavitha wants to tap the Telangana Sentiment and also any possible Vote Transfer due to the name confusion.

It is also an emotional connection with the people of Telangana especially as Kavitha is also connected to the Telangana Movement through Telangana Jagruthi.

If the EC cancels the name, we may see Kavitha go after her brother, KTR with vengeance.

Prior to this letter to the EC, Kavitha approached the Court against the EC but then, the court refused to interfere saying that it would amount to interfering in the Election Commission’s working.

The Court asked Kavitha to come back if she is not satisfied by the response of the Commission.

However, this letter does not appear strong in representing Kavitha’s Case. We will have to see how the EC responds!
