The death of former minister and veteran Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham has left Andhra Pradesh in mourning. However, instead of a peaceful farewell, emotional scenes and political tensions unfolded at his native village Kirlampudi during the final rites.
The controversy began when Mudragada’s daughter Kranthi, who is now associated with Jana Sena, arrived to pay her last respects. Mudragada had remained with YSR Congress, and the political differences between father and daughter had been widely discussed in recent years.
As soon as Kranthi reached the residence, a section of Mudragada’s supporters opposed her entry and raised slogans asking her to leave. They argued that she had publicly criticised her father and therefore had no moral right to pay tribute now. The situation quickly turned tense.
Many locals, however, questioned why politics was being dragged into such a personal moment. They felt that regardless of political differences, Kranthi had every right to bid a final goodbye to her father.
Despite resistance from supporters, the police intervened and escorted Kranthi inside. She finally paid her last respects to Mudragada with tears, bringing an emotional end to a day that unexpectedly turned into a political flashpoint.
