Congress Rajya Sabha MP Renuka Chowdhury launched a sharp attack on the Centre and Delhi Police over the alleged lathi charge and use of tear gas against protesting students in the national capital. Her emotional remarks quickly went viral on social media.
Questioning the government’s handling of protests, Renuka said farmers were earlier met with force and now students and youngsters were facing the same treatment. She accused the Centre of failing to address public concerns while suppressing peaceful demonstrations.
The senior leader also criticized the security arrangements around Parliament, alleging that entry restrictions and communication disruptions reflected the government’s attitude towards dissent. She said Parliament belongs to the people and peaceful protests cannot be silenced.
Renuka reserved some of her strongest remarks for the police, asking how they could raise lathis against young women. She warned that if women protesters were attacked, she too would pick up a lathi and stand with them, adding that she was not afraid of legal action.
Her aggressive stand and outspoken comments have sparked a political debate. While supporters praised her for speaking fearlessly in support of students, the remarks have also intensified the opposition’s attack on the Centre over its handling of the protests.
